Democrats are leaving their sinking ship.

Do you remember my post from last year (reprinted below) on the Pink Slips campaign started by WorldNet Daily News? The campaign delivered over 10-million Pink Slips to every member of Congress putting them on notice that they were going to get "Fired" by the voters who hired them if they continued to destroy our liberties and bankrupt our country. While there was very little coverage about this in the mainstream news media there were several reports on conservative web sites about members of Congress overheard in the hallways talking about the huge piles of Pink Slips they had received. And to date several Democrats have announced they have reconsidered their plans to run for re-election. The latest is Democrat Patrick Kennedy, Congressman from Rhode Island and son of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, who recently announced he won't run for re-election in November so he can spend more time with his family and working on his substance abuse problem. I don't know what sort of substance abuse he has but I am willing to bet he, like many other Democrats, is addicted to power and have just seen the writing on the wall.
USA Today writes:
A week ago, the Boston Herald's Hillary Chabot wrote that the "Kennedy political dynasty is shaking in the aftermath of the U.S. Sen. Scott Brown earth-shattering election" in Massachusetts. The article -- Kennedys shaken as GOP eyes R.I. too -- was written after a new poll showed Kennedy's popularity falling in Rhode Island.
The WPVI-TV poll showed 62% of Rhode Island voters surveyed gave him an unfavorable job approval rating and only 35% said they would vote to re-elect him.
Politico reports:
The son of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy says a Republican victory in the race for his father's Senate seat is a sign that the American public is out for "blood."
As of today we have at least two Democrat Senators and more than half a dozen Democrat Congressman have decided to change their careers and leave national politics. Good riddance to them all. When 2-million Americans from every part of the country traveled to Washington, D.C. on September 12th last year as part of the Take Back America campaign, the TEA Party movement exploded everywhere. The conservative tidal wave has been sweeping across the nation upsetting one Democratic stronghold after another. The dramatic events in Massachusetts last November seems to have been the catalyst that has sent shock waves through the liberal establishment.

Update on Pink Slips sent to Congress - now more than 7 million

If you ever wondered about the power of the press to affect public opinion here is a perfect example. Four days ago a group promoting a campaign to Take Back America announced in Washington, D.C. their mailing program to deliver Pink Slips to every member of the Senate and House of Representatives to warn them that they work for the American taxpayer had successfully delivered 5-million Pink Slips. That total breaks down to a stack of Pink Slips over 5-feet tall for every lawmaker. The press conference was held on the steps of the Capitol building and was covered by several news media stations.

After the word got into the newspapers and on TV, the public interest in this campaign has resulted in an additional 2-million Pink Slips being ordered for delivery in just three days. That means there have been over 7-million Pink Slips either delivered or on their way.

The mainstream news media had largely ignored this campaign during the first 5 weeks since it began and only word of mouth and a few conservative blogs managed to get the news out. But in three days after the story became public the campaign exploded.

Here is my original post.

5-million Pink Slips delivered to Congress

A press conference held outside the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. yesterday announced that the campaign to Take Back America has delivered over 5-million Pink Slips to Congress. Every Senator and Congressman has received a stack of these Pink Slips over 5 feet tall warning them that their votes for high-cost spending bills will result in their getting "fired" by the taxpayers who employ them.

Janet Porter, founder and president of Faith2Action and one of the organizers behind the "pink slips" campaign, was at a news conference today in Washington where U.S. Reps. Michelle Bachmann, R-Minn.; Louie Gohmert, R-Texas; Steve King, R-Iowa; and Trent Franks, R-Ariz., hailed the effort as an innovative new vehicle for the American people to express themselves to members of Congress.

"It's an amazing feat, to get that many slips to Congress," Rep. King told WND. "If you look through them, you can index each one back to an individual.

"That's powerful. There is a person behind each one of the slips," he said.

Organizers of 'pink slip' protest claim 5 million sent to Congress

Washington (CNN) -- Voters disappointed over health care and other legislative efforts have now sent 5 million "pink slips" to members of Congress, the conservative Web site WorldNetDaily said Tuesday.

Several Republican lawmakers joined WorldNetDaily figures to endorse the campaign Tuesday on Capitol Hill.

"These pink slips are a call for fiscally responsible and constitutionally responsible Americans," said Rep. Steve King of Iowa.

A pink slip is symbolic of job dismissal, a theme not lost on Rep. Trent Franks, R-Arizona, who said members need to vote the will of the people or be fired in the next election.
